” I cant believe this place is less than 300km away from Delhi”. These are my exact words I blurted out on our Nainital holiday 2 weeks ago. It is hard to fathom the idea that this serene, quiet place is such a short distance away from Delhi. It literally is a breath of fresh air. Nainital is a hill station that was constructed by the British in the 1800′s. The idea behind the hill stations was for the British to escape the extreme heat in New Delhi. I feel very thankful this. Getting away from the weather in Delhi, even for three days was just perfect. We actually stayed at a friends house in a local town nearby called Bhimtal. It was quiet, weather was nice and cool and it allowed our kids to run around.
On our first day, we took a relaxing boat ride on the lake. (Relaxing for us because we were not the ones paddling the boat) The locals also told us about regular sightings of Leopards in this area.
Unfortunately, I have to make a point that I got sick on this trip. As much as I tried to eat everything and anything in ‘Punjabi style’, my stomach is just not as strong as my husband or our friends and can’t hold down street food. I came to the conclusion that it must have been the Mo-mos I ate straight after taking this photo. Luckily, after spending a night in the bathroom, my friend brought this amazing medicine which immediately plugged me up!
Since I was much better after that episode, we continued on normally (this time eating normal simple food). We shopped the markets in Nainital, took another boat ride and the kids went on a horse ride. So if you happen to find yourself in Delhi and need a break, definitely go and visit Naintial! Keeping in mind to just avoid the Momos!
