Meditation can be the most difficult part of anyone’s yoga practice. Some say the ability to just sit still is definitely a challenge. Trying different meditation techniques that involves giving attention to one thing in particular can allow one to a least focus on something and clears any other distractions. However, meditating and not thinking at all is one of the most challenging things you can do. In this day we surf the net to clear our minds. Typing in google.com seems like the modern-day of relaxation and allowing your mind to delve into nothingness. Unfortunately, the end result does not make you feel relaxed. Instead, the mind becomes more cluttered and even feelings as if you are missing out on something. Have you ever felt that way?
So what to do? For a start, don’t take it too seriously. Give yourself a moment in the day, even if it is 20 minutes and make sure the room is free of distractions. I’m talking about free of kids, cooking, your laundry that needs doing and the TV. Sit on the floor, close your eyes and keep your back straight. If any thought comes to mind, accept it and let it pass. Most of the time this can happens. But it is that moment, even if its 5 seconds where the mind has completely let go and my mind is truly clear, this is realising what meditation is all about. Yes it can feel very difficult, but that 5 second feeling is totally worth it.
Do you meditate? Have you tried meditation before? Do you have any technique to calm your mind?
