An expat community is a little like having a home away from home. As an expat living in Delhi, discovering that other Aussie expats actually exist and also live in Delhi made a huge difference in the way I adjusted to living in India. Even though I have a big support of family as all of my husbands family live here, sometimes it’s nice to escape and feel like I’m at home, only if it’s for an hour!
That’s where our Australian and New Zealand expat community comes in, also known as ‘ANZA’. (Australian and New Zealand Association) Like many other expat community organisations, ANZA offers social support and many network opportunities to expat living in Delhi. Since been a member with ANZA, I have been to numerous coffee catch ups called ‘chai and chatter’, Australia Day celebrations and the Melbourne cup day at the Australia High Commission. What I love especially about expats is that they are a sociable bunch of people. We all have one thing in common of having left our home country and always find the time to make new friends. The photo above is one of the many get together organised for for those expat living in Delhi. We love to meet new people! Even though people come and go and move countries, it great that we still remain connected.
I am truly grateful to be able to immerse myself in Indian culture and at the same time connect with home.
