‘Will Santa Claus come to India, Mum?’ and ‘how can Reindeer’s fly?’. These are some of the questions you would expect from a 6 year old as Christmas approaches. Christmas has always been my favourite time of the year. In Australia, we don’t have all the festivals as India does, so we really make the most of celebrating Christmas. In India, I have to put in an extra effort to feel like it’s Christmas as most people and neighbours around us don’t celebrate it. We have put up our Christmas tree and a few decorations.
Luckily, being part of Australian and New Zealand community, my son got to meet ‘Santa’ during the weekend. It was an enjoyable Sunday morning this Aussie Santa made an appearance for 20 or so kids. Santa called out each and every children s name to hand over their first Christmas gift for the year. Apart from Santa, there was balloon making, face painting, making miniature Christmas trees and art work. During this time of the year in Australia, we would be waiting in line at our local shopping centre mall to sit on Santa’s knee and come back with a Santa photo. It was nice to see that my son can experience the Santa Claus and Christmas fun right here in Delhi!
